Dogs Welcome |
|
Looking for a dog friendly self catering holiday cottage in Camber Sands, or dog friendly accommodation near Rye, East Sussex?
We love dogs and they are very welcome to stay in our dog friendly self catering holiday accommodation in Camber Sands, free of charge, by prior arrangement only.
We understand that people like to bring their 4 legged friends with them on holiday. We welcome up to two small/medium dogs in our holiday home. We do also accept up to two larger dog [labradors, retrievers, boxer sized] if there are only 2 people. This is for the comfort of our guests and their dogs.
Our holiday cottage is just a short walk to the vast sandy beach (approx 5-8 minutes depending on walking speed).
The beach is dog friendly all year round, with a partial restriction between May-September. All this means to our guests is that there will be less people on the dog friendly stretch of beach, which just happens to be the section closest to Marsh View Cottage. Even during those peak months, the dog friendly section is approx a mile of lovely sandy beach, and when the tide is out, the beach is over half a mile in depth too. Please note, this section can only be accessed via the dunes May-September and is not accessible via the route avoiding the dunes, (which are quite high).
During October-April, the entire beach is dog friendly and there is an area where the beach can be accessed avoiding the dunes.
Please be advised, that if you are walking towards the harbour mouth, especially at low tide, there is a growing seal colony who love to bask on the beach. They are a delight to see, from a distance, and although they may not always be present, please be aware that if they are, dogs should then be on a lead at that point.
As with most things in life, we have a few basic house rules for dogs and their owners. This is in the interests of our neighbours and other guests - [not all of our guests bring a dog] and for your own and your dogs comfort and enjoyment. The house rules are very minimal and reasonable and many of our guests with dogs return again and again, some visit several times a year! Last year alone we had over 70 dogs holiday with us and many have already booked another stay.
Please do take a moment to read the following guidelines to make sure our cottage is the right one for you and your dog/s.
NB. Regrettably, we are no longer able to accept puppies under 1 year old.

Please do take a moment to read the following guidelines to make sure our cottage is the right one for you and your dog/s.
NB. Regrettably, we are no longer able to accept puppies under 1 year old.
* We prefer it if dogs don't go on our sofas, but if they do, please cover the sofas with a throw first. We prefer you to bring your own that your dog is familiar with, but in case you forget, there is one in the under stairs cupboard for this purpose. Please leave it in a clean and usable condition when you vacate, if you use ours.
* Please do not permit your dog to go on any of the beds. Our all white bedding is luxury 600 count Egyptian Cotton and very expensive! Not all our guests are dog owners and we do ask you to respect this. If you feel unable to do so, then our cottage may not be suited to your needs. We do understand some dogs like to sleep near their owners, but please do not let your dog go upstairs unaccompanied.
* Please do not leave your dog unattended except for very short periods only, unless crated, and only then if they are happy to be left. We suggest a maximum of 2 hours. Dogs must not be left alone for the entire day.
We only permit dogs to be left unattended if you are certain they will not become distressed, cause damage, or bark.If your dog has separation anxiety they must not be left alone.
We politely ask that both bedroom doors and the bathroom door are closed if leaving your dog alone.
We rarely have damage caused by dogs, but if there is, or extra cleaning is required, this will be deducted from your security deposit
* Please bring your dogs bed, bedding and towels. We provide dog bowls and an emergency supply of dog waste bags as well as some home made dog treats in the welcome basket. Please do not use the cottage towels for your dogs.
* All animal mess must be cleaned up and disposed of - we leave an emergency supply of dog waste bags in case you run out.
* Please keep food and water bowls downstairs only
* Please wash sandy/muddy dogs using the outside garden tap and hose ,not the bathroom shower/bath
* We do not charge for dogs
* Please be aware that there may be sheep grazing in the field behind our back garden. Please do not allow your dog to bark at the sheep or to bother them in any other way. The rear garden fence is approx.1 metre in height, so that guests can enjoy the rural views, with a small area of land between the garden fence and farm fence. The side fences in the garden are about 2 metres high and the garden is fully enclosed.
However, please remember that you are responsible for your dog at all times.Whilst this has never been a problem at all with our very large number of dog owning guests we do prefer any potential guests to be aware of this in case your dog is able to scale a fence of this height. If so,and sheep are present behind our garden, please do not leave your dog unattended in the garden. If you know your dog reacts negatively to livestock, we would not be suited to your needs. This is another reason we cannot accept larger dogs, or indeed any dogs who are inclined.
*We assume no responsibility for illness or injury that may occur to your dog/s whilst you are staying in our cottage. Details of the local vet can be found inside the cottage information folder.
Information to help you and your dog get the most from your stay in our holiday cottage
Although the beach is dog friendly all year round, there is a dog free zone in peak season from 1st May – 30th September. During this time the ‘dogs allowed’ area is towards the harbour section of beach to the west, which is actually the quieter end of the beach. It is also the area of beach closest to our cottage. This is accessed by walking through the main, western grassed over car park and crossing over the dune on the right hand side as you face the dunes. This is the dune located nearest the shop and refreshments building. Once over the dune you will see a sign saying ‘dogs’ with an arrow pointing towards the right. Please note, the sand dunes are quite high and may not suit those with mobility problems. Even with the partial restriction, the beach is still vast and also, at low tide the beach is over half a mile in depth! There is plenty of room for dogs to run and play off lead.
For the rest of the year dogs are allowed over the entire beach and there is a flat access during this period avoiding the dunes via the car park at the eastern end. Please remember to clean up after your dog and there are dog refuse bins provided along the beach. Here is some information about the beach with an additional link to a map showing the restricted beach areas 1st May - 30th September.. The western section is in good walking distance from the cottage and is actually a large area. If you walk on the beach at low tide, the sea goes out some half a mile, making an already large sandy beach, even larger! You can check Camber Sands tide times or here
There is a good dog friendly pub/restaurant, The Owl, in walking distance [approx 10 minutes] from the cottage, at the foot of the sand dunes. It is perfect all year round for having a drink or a meal after your have had a long beach walk. Please note, the Owl now only allows children aged 5 and over for meals and not in the bar area.
There are also several old inns and good tea rooms in the ancient town of Rye [3 miles away] which are dog friendly.
Other than the beach, there are some excellent places to walk with your dog. An off road pathway across the fields from Camber to Rye makes a very good walk of about 3 miles. Sometimes there are sheep grazing in the fields, so be sure to have your dog on a lead. The off road path can be found where there is a sharp bend in the road towards Rye. A lay by there means you can drive and park if you don't want to do the full 3 miles. The directions can be found on our things to do page
In the opposite direction, turn left from the cottage, an off road path takes you about 5 miles to Lydd and Romney Marsh.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve welcomes dogs, and you can find out much more on their website
A 30 minute drive towards Hastings will take you to Hastings Country Park where there are some stunning views. We would recommend the Fairlight area of the park. Hastings Country Park is a real favourite with dog walkers

Just some of our 5***** Trip Advisor reviews from dog owners
''There are many lessons to be learnt from Tony & Sue about how to make your guests feel welcome and special and ensure a relaxing break. Every detail is thought of - the legendary welcome hamper had delicious hand baked goodies and other luxury items as well as the provisions in the fridge (including wine!) ensuring that even if you arrive late evening as we did, you can rest knowing you have everything you need for a lazy breakfast, brunch or even lunch! . The view across the marsh and the sheep was a lovely view to wake up to but we loved the less than 5 minute walk to the beach - very steep dunes not for the faint hearted but perfect for a 10 year old and the puppy to burn off plenty of energy!! ''
" There were many and varied places to visit with the dog within easy reach of the cottage and all of the dog friendly designated establishments visited were truly dog friendly."
"I cannot praise this accommodation highly enough. The house is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The linen and towels are high quality and the owners have put a great deal of thought in providing everything we could possibly need to make our stay successful. The house is situated in a very quiet spot a short walk to the dunes and the wonderful sandy beach where our dog had great fun. It is by far the best holiday rental we have every been to."
"One of the nicest places we have stayed, such attention to detail and obviously done with great care and thought . Spotlessly clean, very comfortable, everything and more you could ever need for a seaside holiday.
Quiet location and a very short stroll to the lovely Camber Sands which has plenty of restriction free sand for dogs.......The walk into Rye is a must, excellent food in the Ypres and the Standard, both very dog friendly as is a lot of the lovely shops. Great communication from Tony & Sue, can't recommend Marsh View enough.......the view over the marshes at sunrise is worth going for alone.....
Only one problem........ We couldn't stay longer !!!''

We came across Marsh View on Twitter and are so pleased we did, it's the perfect location for long walks on the beach with our labrador. The cottage is so well equipped and along with all the extras that you wouldn't get in most other self catering cottages, it really does make it special, we had a fabulous time."
"A very special cottage run by very special people who have thought of everything anyone could want to make your stay special. A cottage with a 5 star boutique hotel touch from the welcome pack to the little toileteries, beautiful linen, bathrobes and slippers all left for your use.Close to the beach and Rye you can choose relax or pick your way round the picturesque streets with independent little shops with antiques at every corner. Rye itself welcomes dogs everywhere so no shortage of places to eat and drink."
