Battle Abbey in Battle, East Sussex, site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 is a 30 minute drive from our seaside holiday cottage in Sussex, Marsh View Cottage, Camber Sands, East SussexProbably the most iconic view of East Sussex, the Seven Sisters cliffs and coastguard cottages - approx just over 1 hours drive away from Marsh View Cottage
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to follow guidelines and remove tourist information leaflets. If you require these, you can pick some up at Rye Heritage Centre on The Strand in Rye, when it re-opens soon


Camber Sands and Rye are just 3 miles apart but both have their own magic and complement each other perfectly. Our Sussex holiday cottage is
located in historic 1066 country and there is a wealth of history in this corner of England but also some stunning coast line and countryside. As we are on the borders of Kent there are many attractions to visit there too.Listed below are just a small selection of attractions. We do strongly recommend you look on each website for opening times etc.

​Ypres Castle Museum - located in Rye's oldest building

Hastings - Lots to see and do in Hastings,but these are probably the top three attractions - the smuggling adventure is great fun for the children too

Beachy Head - about 1.20 hours [40 miles] drive from Marsh View Cottage but worth it for the spectacular views and lovely cliff top walks

Kent & East Sussex Railway - if you like steam trains then this will suit you - located in Tenterden only about 8 miles from the cottage you can just visit or take a trip. You can also take the steam train to Bodiam Castle and back again, making a very enjoyable day out. Check the website for timetable

Bodiam Castle - about half an hours drive from the cottage, it is one of the finest examples of a moated medieval castle there is

Hever Castle - childhood home of Anne Boleyn

Herstmonceux Castle - 15th Century moated castle and grounds

Pevensey Castle

Canterbury - about one hours drive from the cottage, explore Canterbury's rich history and the world famous Canterbury Cathedral as well as a number of other excellent attraction such as The Canterbury Tales.

Battle Abbey, battlefield and town - the actual site of the famous Battle of Hastings and the remains of the Abbey commissioned by William the Conqueror.The town is worth a walk around.

Winchelsea - one of the ancient cinque ports and only a short drive from marsh View Cottage

Dover Castle - about a 1 hours drive and located on the famous White Cliffs of Dover

Rare Breeds Farm Park - a great day our for the children

Port Lympne Reserve - wild animal park or Howletts wild animal park

Dungeness - unique, bleak and mysterious, Dungeness is much more than a nuclear power station and well worth a visit. Only about 8 miles from the cottage

Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway - a one third sized but fully working railway which also runs through Dungeness

Romney Marsh - one of the three great coastal marshlands of southern England and also known as the fifth continent, there is a lot to discover and explore


Rye Harbour Nature Reserve - a short drive away and great for bird watchers and walking

RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve - set amidst the strangely beautiful landscape of Dungeness

Chapel Down Vineyards - one of Englands leading wine makers

Biddenden - Kent wine and cider makers

Great Dixter - house and gardens

Chartwell - Kent home of Winston Churchill. House, gardens, estate

Scotney Castle -  National Trust house, garden and moated castle

Hastings Country Park - for some great views and lovely walks. We would recommend heading to the Fairlight area of the park for some spectacular views.
